Cselle Joins OpenAI
Gabor Cselle, the former CEO and co-founder of Pebble, has recently joined OpenAI to work on a secret project. He shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying he has been with OpenAI since October and is already learning a lot.
Who is Gabor Cselle?
Cselle is an experienced entrepreneur. He sold his first company, reMail, which was a mobile email app designed to help users manage their email more efficiently, to Google. His second company, Namo Media, focused on native advertising and was bought by Twitter before it became X under Elon Musk.
Before starting Pebble, Cselle worked at Twitter as a group product manager, improving features like the home timeline and user onboarding. He left Twitter in 2016 to work at Google’s Area 120 incubator.
The Story of Pebble
Cselle launched Pebble in 2022, originally called T2, with Michael Greer, a former engineer at Discord. Pebble aimed to create a safe space for microblogging. It built a small but active community and received funding from investors, including Android co-founder Rich Miner. Unfortunately, Pebble struggled to grow and shut down last October, later returning as a Mastodon instance in November.
